Shakara United is back on stage! The Belgian band delivers a captivating mix of afrobeat and jazz, infused with energy, groove, and urgency. In times that often feel unsettled, the band consciously embraces a new approach: where afrobeat once stood for “good vibes with a bitter message,” in the words of Fela Kuti, Shakara United now brings warm, uplifting sounds with a message of love. Because that is exactly what is needed today.

What started in 2012 as a one-off project with former members of the Belgian Afrobeat Association quickly grew into a tight-knit and distinctive group of musicians sharing a passion for afrobeat. Inspired by greats like Fela Kuti, Shakara United developed a recognizable sound driven by infectious rhythms, deep grooves, and powerful horn and synth lines. Their music is predominantly instrumental, leaving room for both intense interplay and spontaneous expression.

The band’s self-titled debut was released in 2013. Between 2012 and 2015, they built a strong reputation through performances in clubs and festivals across Belgium and the Netherlands. They shared the stage with artists such as Seun Kuti (Vooruit), Ebo Taylor (Trix), and Jungle by Night (De Roma).

Today, Shakara United returns with a refreshed lineup and renewed drive. The band is currently working on a new album, People of Love, expected in early 2027. Expect a warm, danceable yet layered set that effortlessly draws the audience in.
