dzokapi – LÚCIA PIRES

With her new project ‘dzokapi’, upcoming jazz flutist Lúcia Pires dives into the producing world exploring her dynamic sonic universe through flute, voice and electronics.

Blending dreamy landscapes, rhythmic explorations, textural sounds and improvisation, she creates an engaging musical playground for the listener to explore, inspired by alt pop, futuristic pop, ambient music and undeniably improvisation.

Lúcia Pires is a Brussels-based flute player, graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2025 and active in the Belgian scene since 2019. Her practice is strongly rooted in explorations of rhythm and putting the qualities and characteristics of her instrument in the centre of soundcrafting. She creates a unique improvised language that brings together the variety of influences she has gathered through her collaborations (including Stéphane Galland, Louise Van den Heuvel, Lara Humbert, Pierre-Antoine Savoyat…) and learning experiences (including Bruno Vansina, Jeroen Van Herzeele, Magic Malik…).

She performs with a variety of musicians touching a large diversity of styles, such as jazz (projects include Kanda, I’m not done cooking, The Rhythm Hunters XTNDD, Cedric de Lat quintet), fusion/trance (projects include re#encounter), as well as collaborating with different individual artists independently or with Cortex Ensemble .

She was the Belgian laureate for the 2024 edition of Propulsion, the support program for emerging artists, which allowed her to connect with international artists and promoters, and affirm her artistic identity. She now presents her new solo project which revolves around flute and electronics merging genres and crossing styles.
