What is it to strike a sound machine and have it make sound after your action of striking it is done? What is it to get involved in the listening of that sound now alive on its own?
Born in New York City, this guitar/drums collaboration between Samuel Ber and Todd Neufeld found on first meeting deeply shared values – music as a painting of asymmetrical shapes, music as a physical act which simultaneously reveals and creates time, and the reach beyond and into intentionality. The access to both poise and letting go immediately felt…Right. Emerging now from a period of distance and change, the duo focuses on resonance as a dynamic, but also two things happening at once as well as one thing happening at once, and letting those pesky hierarchies and distinctions of rhythm and melody be at play.
In the spring of 2023, Samuel Ber & Todd Neufeld did a residency in Belgium, and toured in the United States. To be continued!
