There’s absolutely no doubt that Bram De Looze & Robin Verheyen are part of the most prominent figures in the current Belgian Jazz scene. Composers and bandleaders with a vison, who individually made their marks in the Jazzscene. They are also both fan of Thelonious Monk. For many years they’ve been playing the repertoire of Monk as a duo. Upon request of BOZAR they found the American drummer Joey Baron. Baron is very renowned in the present-day jazz world. He worked together with John Zorn (Massada, Naked City), Bill Frisell and Marc Copland. This makes Baron the ideal partner for Bram & Robin to honour the music of Monk.
This trio already did a small European tour together, completely sold out. They performed in Paradox Tilburg (NL), het Wilde Westen in Courtrai (BE), La Dynamo in Paris (FR), TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht (NL), BOZAR in Brussels (BE) and the Monk Café in Brussels (BE). The concert in Paris was live broadcasted on Radio France and the concert in the Monk Café was broadcasted directly via Radio Klara. (you can listen below to the soundcloud recordings of the radio session)
“ The notes from the piano sound extraterrestrial, the saxophone limps, and then the brushes dictate the tempo. The music is carved up, scathing and dry. Its swing is nervous and lean. Robin interjects short riffs, Bram punctuates and splashes, Baron flogs. A+ – Jacques Prouvost “
A new tour with own compositions and a new album is planned for spring 2019 and season 2019-2020. They will perform in BOZAR, Brussels (BE), the Handelsbeurs, Ghent (BE), deSingel, Antwerp (BE) and Europe..
