Mark Feldman, Philippe Thuriot, Bart Maris & Kristof Roseeuw
Imagine: You’re gazing at the stars on a warm summer evening. You’re dreaming up a perfect soundtrack. What you’re imagining is Charms of the Night Sky. Twenty years ago, American trumpet legend Dave Douglas composed a repertoire for a special line-up of trumpet, accordeon, violin and bass, liberally crossing the boundaries between jazz and other genres. Charms of the Night Sky infuses an Eastern European tinge with klezmer and Jewish wedding music.
This is melancholic music that carries you away, even 20 years on. For Festival Kortrijk, trumpeter Bart Maris joins Philippe Thuriot on accordeon and Kristof Roseeuw on double bass. This trio is also joined by legendary violinist Mark Feldman, who also played on the original recording by Dave Douglas.
Sit back and relax!

“It’s Kristof Roseeuw, whose golden touch allows him to become one with his double bass. His elegant instrument lends an atmospherical live feeling to the music, a feeling of subdued compassion. A spontaneous soundtrack, the double bass anchoring the atmosphere of pure beauty.” – vrt
